| Jeannie
Friedman is an award-winning
painter, graphic designer,
and art director,
and has written and
illustrated five books
for the very young reader. In
1986, she founded
Design 5, a full-service
graphic design studio in New
York City specializing in creating
innovative educational materials
for children. Throughout
her professional life
as designer and studio owner, she
continued to paint and
exhibit in juried competitions throughout
the country.
She
has taught art to
young children, college
students, and adults
at the Brooklyn Museum, Livingston
College, Parsons School
of Design, Pratt Institute,
and NY Institute of
Technology. 
As
an undergraduate, she
attended the University of Chicago and
Cooper Union where
she earned a BFA with
honors in Graphic Design. She
also did doctoral work at
the Graduate Center, City
University of New York in
American History, studying
how control of computerized
technology affected
New York City’s newspapers and
eroded the typographical workers
union. 
Jeannie
is now a full-time
artist and designer
living in Rhinebeck, NY
with her husband and
two highly creative dogs, Jersey
and Ginger.
